College of Charleston’s Department of History Inaugural Black History Month Lecture: Feb. 16, 2021

Please join the Department of History at CofC in welcoming Dr. Douglas Flowe for its inaugural Black History Month Lecture. Dr. Flowe’s lecture is entitled, “Uncontrollable Blackness: African American Men and Criminality in Jim Crow New York.”

December 12th: Vanguard Book Club for CofC students, faculty, staff, alums and supporters

We invite CofC students, faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters to join us for a unique collaboration in reading and discussing Professor Martha S. Jones’ recently dropped book, Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All (Basic Books, 2020).

We will read the book from late-October to early December and meet twice (virtually)to discuss your thoughts on and takeaways from the book. On December 02, 2020, we ask that you join us as we welcome Dr. Jones for a virtual lecture/Q&A (details TBA).

Book pick-up at Addlestone Library will begin on October 20th (listed as the event date) and will continue for several weeks on designated days (details TBA)
