The Charleston Area Branch of ASALH welcomes community submissions for our Community Events Calendar, a space dedicated to sharing programs, gatherings, and initiatives that highlight African American history, culture, and education. Whether you’re organizing a lecture, cultural festival, book talk, or historical commemoration, we invite you to submit your event for consideration. Our goal is to provide a central hub where community members can stay informed and engaged with meaningful events throughout Charleston and surrounding areas. All submissions will be reviewed for alignment with ASALH’s mission before being added to the calendar. Thank you for helping us connect, educate, and celebrate African American heritage together!

Juneteenth Family Fest – N. Charleston, SC – June 15, 2024 @ 3PM
“Celebrating Juneteenth in Charleston, South Carolina as a large-scale event is significant. According to the International African-American Museum, nearly half of enslaved Africans brought to America came through Charleston, and nearly 80 percent of African-Americans can potentially trace an ancestor who arrived in Charleston.
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, we will kick off our 4th Annual Juneteenth Family Fest! This community-family-based event will take place at the Riverfront Park in North Charleston, SC, and is open to the public. Doors will open at 2 pm, and festivities will begin at 3 pm. This day-long celebration will be power-packed with activities ranging from live performances, black art displays, games for children, and delicious cultural food!
Non-profit organizations, local community vendors, and historically black colleges and universities will be present to share information beneficial to our community and families. This joyous occasion will be topped off with a grand fireworks show finale that will be worth watching with your family and friends! We’re asking the community to come out and celebrate where we’ve come from, as we look forward to where we are heading and what we desire to accomplish in the future.
