The Charleston Area Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is thrilled to announce the start of an exciting new year of events, beginning with our Black History Month Kick-Off on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
This year’s ASALH theme, “African Americans and Labor,” focuses on the profound ways labor—free and unfree, skilled and unskilled, paid and voluntary—has shaped the collective experience of African Americans throughout history.
Highlights of the kick-off program include a presentation exploring this year’s theme, recognition of community achievements honorees, and the unveiling of our 2025 African Americans and Labor event calendar. Light refreshments will be served, and attendees are invited to bring a book to participate in our community book exchange.
