LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT – UPCOMING CHS ASALH QUARTERLY MEETING @ ECPI – SAT. APRIL 12, 2025

Greetings and Salutations!

I am writing to appeal to all Charleston Area Branch Members about the importance of this month’s quarterly meeting. We have unfinished business that requires all of us to decide on the forced cancellation of the Women in Labor program at the Hurd Branch of the Charleton County Public Library in March 2025.

The Executive Committee held a Zoom session to discuss strategies to redress our grievance with the CCPL’s policies and procedures for omission and rebranding of the ASALH program during Women’s History Month in Celebration of African Americans and Labor. We need to be reminded that the most important leadership position in a democracy is the one-person, one-vote dynamic. The same governance structure was the founder’s vision for ASALH. Dr. Woodson reminds us: “…the confidence of people is worth more than money.”

As we rethink the program content, it is important to formalize a discussion around labor sustainability in Charleston by including men in business in a roundtable discussion. We need your voice and your vote at this critical time. There is strength in numbers!

The new location Charleston Area Branch ASALH’s quarterly meeting will be held on:

Saturday, April 12, 2025, 2-4 pm
ECPI University Campus
3800 Paramount Dr, North Charleston SC
[Ample parking adjacent to the single building]

Gratefully yours,
Ty Collins
President
