Join the Dr. Conseula Francis Reading Circle for an exciting Virtual Discussion on Master Slave Husband Wife. This discussion will feature the book’s author Dr. Ilyon Woo and William and Ellen Craft family descendants. We will explore aspects of the Craft’s “epic journey from slavery to freedom,” and showcase several of the artifacts from their archival collection which was donated to the Avery Research Center by their descendants.

This New York Times “10 best books of 2023” describes “The remarkable true story of Ellen and William Craft, who escaped slavery through daring, determination, and disguise, with Ellen passing as a wealthy, disabled White man and William posing as “his” slave.”
