CHS Area ASALH Joins Pure Theatre in Celebrating the Life and Achievements of Charleston’s Own, Septima Poinsette Clark in a Captivating Play: SEPTIMA

“We’ve been all over the state, performing for students and the public alike. We’ll be back in Charleston for one weekend only – don’t miss it!”

ASALH 2024 Black History Month Theme: African Americans and the Arts

The Charleston Area Branch ASALH joins Pure Theatre in celebrating the amazing life and achievements of our very own, Septima Poinsette Clark. Their Septima tour is halfway done, and they’re coming to Charleston soon!

“SEPTIMA is a dynamic and moving play celebrating the life and work of Civil Rights leader and educator Septima P. Clark. Told through monologues, stories, and music, the play honors the moments of Septima’s life that shaped her into one of the most important figures in American history and inspired Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to call her the “Mother of the Movement.””

“Meet Septima! Zania Cummings joins this stellar cast as the “Mother of the Movement” herself. Born and raised in Charleston, Zania is an actor, poet, and creative formerly based in NYC.”

(Zania will be joined by Shivam V. Patel, Josh Wilhoit, Keith H. Alston, Michele Powe, and Sonja D. Reed.)
