You are invited to join us to celebrate the 147th birthday of Dr Carter G Woodson – “The Father of Black History.” The celebration will include tributes to the life and legacy of Dr. Woodson, a Remembrance Committee Recognition, and a panel discussion on Black Health, Wellness and Resistance: Remembering the 1969 Hospital Strike.

December 19, 2020: Carter G. Woodson’s Birthday Celebration

Description

This annual celebration of the birthday of Dr. Carter G. Woodson will be the culminating event 0f the year for the branch. The program will include: a tribute to Dr. Woodson; presentation of a city of Charleston proclamation declaring December 19, 2020 as Carter G. Woodson’s Day; and the presentation of the newly established Charleston Area Branch ASALH Griot award. The award honors an individual who has done outstanding worked to preserve the historical narratives of African Americans.
