27th Annual Charleston Middle Passage Remembrance Commemoration, June 8, 2024, Fort Moultrie, Sullivans Island, SC

On June 8th, Charleston remembers. The 27th Annual Middle Passage Ancestor Remembrance Ceremony honors the millions lost during the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Descendants gather for a day of reflection, education, and healing.

Charleston ASALH Mourns the Loss of Long-Time Member and Activist, Ruth (McClain) Rambo

Ruth Rambo, formerly known as Ruth McClain, blazed a trail in activism after graduating from Fisk University in the 1960s. She rose to become one of the earliest female directors at the Urban League and confronted gender discrimination in a landmark lawsuit. Her influence reached national levels, leading the New Jersey delegation to the 1977 National Women’s Conference.
